Character Interview and update

One of my goals when it comes to writing is to make my characters believable, make them so real that it wouldn't surprise you if one of them sat down next to you at the bar, ordered a cold adult beverage and engaged you in a conversation.

Now, some people will tell you that they've seen me talking to myself. I let them think what they want, but in this age of telephone communication systems, I could be having a conversation with someone from a Bluetooth or similar device. Chances are I might be having a discussion with one of my characters, trying to work out a particular scene or a piece of dialogue. You just never know. I'm not going to tell ya.

Recently I got a request from one of the crew at Secret Cravings Publishing to include an interview with one of my characters in their monthly magazine.  I've done this a few times before with blog posts for other writers, but in the past it's usually been Jamie, the heroine for these stories who gets the spotlight.  This time, I decided it was Malone's turn.  So if you'd like to learn a little more about the guy, check out the link below.

On the update side, we are getting closer to the launch date for "Why 319?" my new mystery with Black Rose Writing.  I received word that the book is now available for pre-order and that you can get a discount if you'd like to beat the crowd and order your copy.  Here's a link.

One Step Closer

I've been waiting for this for a while now, ever since "Why 319?" was accepted for publication with Black Rose Writing.  Authors always have ideas in their heads as to how they think the cover should look. We may offer suggestions to the artists and hope that they come up with something that is even remotely close to what we had in mind. Sometimes they're close. Other times...not so much. And sometimes, it's damn near spooky how close they are.

This morning I received the cover art for the book. As I was about to open the message, I had that momentary flash of uncertainty, sort of like meeting a blind date.  Would it meet with my expectations?  Or would it be somehow disappointing, with a thought of 'well, it will do.'  This was the moment I'd been waiting for. So as I opened his message, the image jumped out at me.
Turns out I had nothing to worry about.

Dave King got it. He'd read the story, looked at my notes and probably said to himself, "I can do you one step better" or words to that effect.

A little more than three weeks from now, the book will be released. With the cover done, I'm one step closer to holding a copy of the book.  For a writer, that's a sense of accomplishment that I think will never grow old.

The Countdown begins

If everything goes according to plan, "Why 319?" my mystery about a serial killer running loose in Detroit, will be released on September 4.  That's four weeks away.

So as a form of early celebration, I've decided to do a countdown of sorts.  I currently have 4 books out as eBooks.  I'm going to be giving away a copy each week.  All you have to do is respond to the question of the week and take your chances.

This week's question is: Where is your dream vacation?  Make it somewhere you've never been, so it's on  the bucket list for 'someday'.  Tell me where it is, what's so appealing about it and who would you bring along to enhance the experience.  That's it.  I'll pick a winner next Monday, 8/11 and post the question for next week.

The first week's prize is an eBook copy of "Fade Away".  If you'd like to learn more about that, you can click on the link below.
